Tell me a little about yourself. Where are you from?
I grew up an only child in a small inlet town called Port Moody, just outside Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. I moved to Montreal to attend the National Theatre School of Canada, a 3-year acting conservatory program which was initially over-seen by Michel St Denis who also founded the Julliard School in New York. The most logical step after graduating from the National Theatre School was to move to Toronto in order to work in both theatre and film, so I now live in the heart of downtown Toronto.
How would you define your city’s fashion styles?
I think Toronto has a pretty eclectic sense of fashion because of all the different communities that have immigrated to the city. Toronto is so much about people from all over the world coming together and so various aesthetics of fashion fuse together as well. Not only that, it creates a sense of inclusion and belonging in our population. Toronto reminds me a lot of Bombay in that way- a good sub-section of the population isn’t born here, but people travel over for work and a better life and so cities like Toronto and Bombay house a community of nomads. So in that way, I think I would call Toronto’s fashion “Nomadic”
